The Specialty Of Solapur That You Can Find Nowhere Else

Solapur is a beautiful and unique place because it is situated at the junction of three states- 1) Maharashtra, 2) Karnataka, and 3) Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). Also, the present Solapur district was previously part of Ahmednagar, Pune and Satara districts. It became the Sub-district of Ahmednagar in 1838. It included Barshi, Madha, Karmala, Indi, Mohol, Hippargi and Muddebihal Sub-divisions. This Sub-district was abolished in 1864 and was reformed joining the Sub-divisions viz in 1871. Solapur, Mohol, Madha, Karmala and Barshi two Sub-divisions of Satara district viz. Sangola, Pandharpur and Malshiras Sub-division was also attached in 1875. Solapur was included in Mumbai State after the State reorganization in 1956, In 1960, it became a full-fledged district of Maharashtra State.

The City of Hutatmas
In 1930, the first Municipal Council of India to host the national flag on the Municipal Council building (Now Municipal Corporation) Solapur was The Solapur Municipal Council. On 6 April 1930, a Senior freedom fighter from Pune Shri Annasaheb Bhopatkar hoisted the National Flag on the Municipal Council building and this was the first and the unique incidence of such kind throughout the country. On 9–11 May 1930, the people of Solapur enjoyed full freedom during the Indian independence movement. But,  this resulted in the executions of Mallappa Dhanshetti,  Jagannath Bhagwan Shinde, Shrikisan  Laxminarayan Sarada and  Abdul Rasool Qurban Hussein who were hanged on 12 January 1931, in the prison at Pune. This incident gave the city the title of 'The City of Hutatmas'.  Their statues have been installed in the heart of the city as a mark of respect to these freedom fighters and the location has been named 'Hutatma Chowk”.
